The Greenville football Comets overcame the rain and the Litchfield Panthers Friday night to begin the season with a 37-0 victory.
The Comets led 28-0 at halftime.
The running and passing game were good for the Comets, as they rushed for a total of 277 yards and passed for 92.
The passing combination of quarterback Wil Harnetiaux and receiver Isaac Green was good for three touchdowns. The TD plays went for 35, 10 and 10 yards. Logan Doll scored on runs of one and 18 yards.
Doll led the running game with 149 yards. Sophomore Cazdin Weber saw his first varsity action and ran for 127 yards.
Defensively, Jarin Weber had 6 tackles while Doll and Phillip Reeves totaled 5 apiece.
The football Comets are on the road next Friday, making the trip to Southwestern Piasa. Game time is 7 p.m., and it will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at WGEL.com.
