GU Panthers 3rd In SLIAC Poll

Four teams split first-place votes in this year’s 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Webster University picked up the majority of the votes, five to be exact, and finished with 72 total points to claim the top spot. They are followed in order by Spalding University, Greenville University, and Iowa Wesleyan University.

Greenville University was picked 3rd in the poll, tallying 66 points and picking up two first-place votes. The Panthers return a whopping 27 players from last year’s team including eight starters; although the three losses were All-Conference players. They still bring back a collection of four All-Conference players, headlined by leading scorer Jared McPeek. In his freshman year McPeek scored 16 goals and added 4 assists, netting six game-winners for the Panthers and earning First Team All-Conference honors. He is joined up top by Adam Jones, a Third Team All-Conference pick last year, who registered 4 goals and 3 assists. Ruben Martinez, a Second Team All-Conference selection, is the leader of the defense and will be the last line of defense for keeper Nick Holland. Holland played over 1600-minutes in net last season and recorded a 0.98 goals-against average while being named Second Team All-Conference. Top newcomers are Santiago Alzate, Benn Jane, and Kyle Sunderland.
