Helicopter Lands On 140 Sunday For Accident

A Hillsboro man was injured in a one-vehicle crash along Illinois Rt. 140, west of Greenville, about 5:25 p.m. Sunday.

Jimmy B. Gunderson, age 35, was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of injuries.

Gunderson was driving a car eastbound on Rt. 140 when the vehicle began to skid and he lost control of it 460 feet west of Shawnee Road. The car travelled through the westbound lane, went off the highway and struck a tree.

Greenville Fire Protection District firemen were sent to the scene and set up a landing zone for the medical helicopter.

It was reported Rt. 140 was blocked about 30 minutes for the helicopter to land and leave with the car driver.

Gunderson was issued citations for alleged improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving while license revoked, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and expired registration.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the Bond County Sheriff’s Department.
