House Fire & Fight In Pocahontas

The Bond County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 800 block of Yates Street in Pocahontas Thursday around 9 AM to a report of a house fire and fight in progress outside of the house.

Bond County Sheriff Jim Leitschuh told WGEL his department is investigating a case of aggravated domestic battery. The sheriff also said there were initially reports of gunfire, however, the investigation has determined that to be untrue.

A suspect and a victim were taken to area hospitals – one to HSHS Holy Family in Greenville and the other to HSHS St. Joseph’s in Highland.

Deputies report 36 year old Jeremy Tedrick of Pocahontas has been taken into custody and is charged with alleged Aggravated Domestic Battery.

We spoke with Pocahontas School Principal Jason Rakers who told us the administration was aware of the situation, were closely monitoring it, and were in touch with authorities, but the school did not have to be placed on lockdown.

Pocahontas, Greenville, Mulberry Grove, Highland-Pierron, Highland City, and Grantfork firefighters responded to the house fire and were on the scene for about two hours. Upon their arrival, fire personnel were instructed to stay back until officers contained the scene and firefighting efforts could begin. No first responders were injured and the home sustained significant damage. The Illinois State Fire Marshall has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
