John J. Duncan

John J. Duncan, age 90 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Cedarhurst of Highland in Highland, IL.

He was born on Thursday, September 13, 1928, in Germantown, IL, the son of Joseph and Veronica (nee Whelling) Duncan.

On Wednesday, April 22, 1953, he married Florence T. Duncan nee Kues at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church-Breese, IL, who survives.

He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church; St. Joseph Hospital volunteer, Highland, IL; Lee Iten Post 439-American Legion, Highland, IL; Madison County Farm Bureau.

Born at Germantown, IL; graduated from Aviston High School. He owned and operated an egg business. He sold the business and served with the US Army, active duty during the Korean War. After his return from the Army he owned another egg business. After marriage he and his wife lived in Breese, then Alhambra and later Marine. In 1959 he purchased a farm southeast of Highland, they lived there for nearly 59 years. They moved to Highland in early 2018. He was a farmer; sold and maintained milking equipment; operated a peach orchard and strawberry patch; bee keeper; licensed butcher shop and a salesman in many ways. He enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, golfing, gardening, participating in the Catholic faith and volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Paul Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Monday, August 19, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 19, 2019, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Pat. G. Jakel, presiding.

Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul School Educational Foundation or Heartland Hospice.
