Shirley A. Federer

Shirley A. Federer, age 91 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL.

She was born on Saturday, November 05, 1927, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Oscar and Helen (nee Anderson) Schmidt.

On Saturday, June 16, 1951, she married Richard S. Federer at Marine, IL, who passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010.

She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ; Honorary member of EvUCC Women’s Guild; former member of Chancel Choir and Sunday School Teacher at her church; Founding member of the Chancel Bell Choir of the church; Life member -VFW Aux. to Post 5694- Highland; former Secretary & member of Madison County Fair Association -Board of Directors; Recipient of Paul Harris Fellow from Highland Rotary Club.

Shirley was born at Highland and raised on the family farm North of Marine, IL. She attended Conn School for 8 years and 3 years at Marine High School. She graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1945. In November 1945 she attended Brown Business School in St. Louis. She worked at Charles W. DeWitt Concession Co in Kiel Auditorium, and worked 3 years for Dewitt Insurance Agency. She got married and moved to Highland in 1951. In October 1956 they moved to Collinsville and in October of 1964 moved back to Highland, IL. She moved into Legacy Place in 2014 and Faith Countryside Homes 2019. She and her husband were owners of Journal Printing in Highland and in 1983 they built Poplar Junction Lanes and Lounge after a fire destroyed the VFW Bowling Lanes. Shirley had traveled to all 50 states and all of the Continents except Africa and Antarctica. She was an avid Bell Collector.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with Rev. Nancy L. Gamache, Pastor, St. Jacob United Church of Christ, St. Jacob, IL, officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
