A group from St. Lawrence Catholic Church recently returned from a week-long mission trip to Texas for Catholic Heart Ministries.
Getting there was the tough part, as the bus broke down in Joplin. Missouri and the group had to wait six hours for another bus to arrive and complete the trip.
Randy Alderman has served as the missions team coordinator the past 12 years. He said each year, for over 20 years, the group travels to a different place in the country to do missions work. This year they went to LaGrange, TX, and worked with families still recovering from the hurricane that flooded the Colorado River a few years ago.

Alderman said the group, which consisted of 29 young teens and nine adults, put siding on houses, did painting work, helped at a thrift shop that provided essentials to the people, and built ramps for the handicapped.
Alderman said the experience provides many benefits to the young people, including growth in their faith and an example of the importance of service and helping those that are less fortunate.
