Big Crowd Helps With Food For Kidz Event

Local residents gathered Saturday morning at the Greenville First Christian Church to pack food for less fortunate boys and girls.

For the sixth time, a Food For Kidz food packing event was held at the church. Children and adult volunteers filled plastic bags with a variety of food materials provided by the Feeding Hungry Children organization.

Marvin Warner told WGEL that 9 teams from the First Christian Church and 10 from other churches and the community participated. Each team was made up of about 10 people. With volunteers, over 200 individuals were involved. He said they expected to pack over 72,000 meals. One package, consisting of rice, soy, dried vegetables, and vitamins, will feed 5 people when boiling water is added.

Sabrina Revisky, event coordinator, is pleased many people are brought together for one important purpose. Each table raises or pays $500 to participate and each table packs 2500 meals. The meals this year will go to Haiti. She said it is a humbling experience for everyone involved.
