The Greenville Comets’ football team is 2-0 for the season after winning at Southwestern Piasa Friday night.
The final score was 21-6.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Birds took the lead two seconds into the second quarter.
That lead lasted 10 seconds as the Comets received the kickoff and then scored on a 65-yard pass from Wil Harnetiaux to Isaac Green. The extra point kick by Logan Doll gave GHS a 7-6 lead.
Jack Woods, who had a big night running the football for the Comets, scored on a 35-yard run with 5:15 left in the half and the visitors led 14-6 at halftime.
The Comets added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a Woods’ run. Doll made it three-for three in extra point kicks for the night, and the Comets ended with the 21-6 victory.
For the game, Jack Woods carried the ball 30 times for 224 yards.
Quarterback Wil Harnetiaux completed 6 of 15 passes for 101 yards. Isaac Green caught three passes for 82 yards.
The Comet defense held Southwestern to 161 offensive yards, 104 on the ground and 57 through the air. Top tacklers were Carter Kessinger and Tommy Baker.
The Comets go to Carlinville this Friday night. The game will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at WGEL.com.
