Vehicular Hijacking On I-70 Near Greenville

Illinois State Police are investigating an armed vehicular hijacking that occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 70 near Greenville at the 38 mile marker.

The Bond County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a rollover accident at that location around 3:30 AM. The driver was heading eastbound, left the roadway and began a barrel roll. The vehicle rolled across the median and both westbound lanes before coming to rest on the shoulder of the westbound side of I-70.

Full details have not been released as the investigation is ongoing, but state police confirmed to WGEL that the individual involved in the rollover accident carjacked another vehicle and a pursuit ensued, heading west.

The suspect exited Interstate 70 and entered the Maryville city limits where they were apprehended. State Police say the suspect received minor injuries in the rollover accident.
