Tourism Committee Discusses Three Requests

The Greenville Tourism Committee met recently in special session to discuss three requests.

The previously budgeted donation for the Bond County Humane Society’s Paws In The Park was okayed.

A total of $750 in tourism funds was approved for the September 21 event at Patriot’s Park.

Following the recommendation of city staff, the committee approved a motion to provide $3,000 of tourism funds for Greenville University Homecoming, October 17 through October 20.

The Greenville City Council will act on the tourism committee’s suggestion at its September 10 meeting.

Some of the homecoming events will be held on the downtown square.

The original request was for $3,500. Tourism Director Jes Adam told the committee if the council approves the $3,000, the new events line item in the budget will be at a deficit, however there is an overall balance in the tourism fund.

The tourism committee also approved another $4,000 for the city’s Art Walk/Apple Day event October 4 and 5. This will provide money to secure musicians for the Art Walk on October 4.

City officials had previously set aside $4,000 for the combined event, so now up to $8.000 is available.
