The Illinois High School Association announced the football playoff pairings Saturday night.
The Greenville Comets will be playing their first round Class 3A game at home against Quincy Notre Dame. Game time is 2 p.m. Saturday at Don Stout Field. Gates will open at 12:30pm. No reserved seating. Blankets will be removed. Admission is $5 per person, as set by the IHSA.
The Comets own a 7-2 record while Quincy Notre Dame is 6-3.
Several other area teams are in the playoffs. Highland plays at Cahokia in Class 5A, Breese Central plays at Effingham in Class 4A, Breese Mater Dei hosts West Frankfort and Virden North Mac goes to Vandalia in Class 3A, and Triad is at Marion in Class 5A.
Five South Central Conference teams made the playoffs. In addition to Greenville and Vandalia, Pana hosts Red Bud in Class 2A, Carlinville is at Mt. Carmel in Class 3A, and Roxana goes to Columbia in Class 4A.
Among the other playoff pairings are Nokomis at Fithian Oakwood and Villa Grove at Nashville in Class 2A, Alton Marquette at Fairfield in Class 3A, Salem at Benton in Class 4A, Mascoutah at Carbondale in Class 5A, and St. Charles East at Edwardsville in Class 8A.
