Lady Comets Tennis Third In Conference Tourney

The Greenville Lady Comets placed third in Saturday’s South Central Conference Tournament held in Greenville.

Roxana and Hillsboro tied for first place with six points apiece. GHS had three points. Vandalia was the other school in the tourney.

Two Lady Comets earned all-conference honors. The number one doubles pair of Sarah Brannon and Heidi Summers won two matches to reach the finals, then fell to Roxana in the title match. It was the second time Brannon has earned a place on the all-conference team.

The other GHS doubles pair, Anna Walker and Morgan Wilderman, placed fourth in number two doubles. They beat Hillsboro in a super-tiebreaker, 10-8, then lost their next two matches.

Playing singles for GHS were Danielle Brand and Kyra Wells.

Monday, the Lady Comets lost to Carmi 6-3. Summers, Wells and Wilderman won singles matches.

In JV action, Walker and Mary-Kate Long won their singles matches and Leona Baum and Joely Dickenson won in doubles.

Senior Ashley Forsberg finished her career with a singles win.

The Greenville High School squad will compete at the Centralia Sectional Friday.
