Muriel Y. Brockmeier

Muriel Y. Brockmeier, age 84 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Saint Mary Health Center in Saint Louis, MO.

She was born on Wednesday, July 31, 1935, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Henry and Ida (nee Matzinger) Schrumpf.

On Saturday, May 04, 1963, she married Earl E. Brockmeier at E & R Church-Grantfork, IL, who survives.

She was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ, Grantfork, IL; Women’s Guild, Choir and funeral lunch committee of the church; IL Business Women’s Club of Highland (formerly-Business & Professional Women/BPW); Women’s Connection-Edwardsville; L.U.N.C.H Bunch-Highland; former Grantfork Fire Department Auxiliary.

Born at Highland, IL; grew up one mile south of Grantfork, on State Hwy 160. She graduated from Highland High School in 1953. She worked at Union Starch Refinery, Granite City, IL, as a secretary. After marriage she was a homemaker raising their two daughters. She then worked for Basler Electric, Highland, IL, in customer service for 20 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening with her husband, growing flowers, canning, cooking, camping and vacationing at Canada with her family, “she was known as the one who would catch the biggest fish while reading a book”. She was a Girl Scout Leader; active in her church and the fire department auxiliary. She played a big role raising money with the auxiliary for fire department equipment . She volunteered for the Food Pantry (HACSM); Meals On Wheels; Friends of the Library and the L.U.N.C.H. Bunch.

Grandchild – Claire I. Schaffer, Austin, TX
Grandchild – Samuel R. Schaffer, Austin, TX
Brother – Merle E. (Joan) Schrumpf (twin to Muriel), Highland, IL.

She was preceded in death by:
Father – Henry Tontz “H. T.” Schrumpf – Died 12/5/2000
Mother – Ida Louise Schrumpf (nee Matzinger) – Died 5/30/2004.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grantfork United Church of Christ (Preserve Our Church (P.O.W.)); Business & Professional Women (Scholarship Fund); Latzer Memorial Public Library (Friends of the Library) or Highland Area Christian Service Ministry (Highland Food Pantry).

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 02, 2019, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL.

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 02, 2019, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL, with Rev. Tim A. Darmour-Paul, Pastor, officiating.

Her body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.
