The Greenville University Panthers’ football team came up with a hard-fought victory Saturday in its homecoming game against St. Scholastica.
The final score was 40-34.
The Panthers led 20-6 at halftime, but the game was far from over.
In the fourth quarter it was a 27-27 score, then 34-34.
Greenville scored the winning touchdown late in the final quarter, then the GU defense stopped St. Scholastica at the Panther 11 yard line with 57 seconds remaining.
The Panthers posted 312 yards rushing and 207 yards passing.
Two G.U. running backs had over 100 yards on the ground. Paul Garrett finished with 173 yards and former Greenville Comet Christian Moss totaled 128 yards. Both averaged seven and a half yards per carry.
St. Scholastica passed for 509 yards, but was held to 54 yards rushing.
The Panthers are 4-2 for the season and 3-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. They play Crown College this Saturday in Minnesota.
