Illinois State Police handled three fatal traffic accidents near Effingham Wednesday.
A St. Elmo man was killed in the first, which occurred at 8:34 AM on the S-curve of Rt. 40, west of Effingham.
Police report 19 year old Seth P. Reeves, of St. Elmo, was traveling east on Rt. 40 when his Ford pickup went into the westbound lane of traffic and struck an oncoming pickup, driven by Christy D. Wickline, age 41, of Neoga, Illinois.
Each driver had to be extricated from their vehicle. Reeves was pronounced deceased on the scene. Wickline was transported to the ER at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital with severe injuries.
The second accident occurred at 10:30 AM on eastbound I-70 about 3 miles west of Effingham.
State police say 38 year old Maher Quaid-Hassan Adam, of Dearborn, Michigan, was traveling eastbound on I-70 when he left the south side of the roadway and traveled down the embankment. He struck a ditch before his vehicle came to a rest in the tree line.
Adam was transported to St. Anthony Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The third accident was also on eastbound I-70 and occurred at 2:34 PM.
State Police report Gerardo Navarrete, age 19, of El Paso, TX, was traveling eastbound on I-70 in a passenger vehicle when he ran into the rear of a Peterbilt semi truck and trailer which was slow or stopped near milepost 80 in traffic.
Navarrete was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Effingham County Coroner.
