Betty Jean Snider


Betty Jean Snider, 78, of Lawson, Missouri, passed away on August 26, 2019.

Betty was born January 17, 1941, in Roodhouse, Illinois, to Neil and Alvena Snider. She grew up in Shattuc, Illinois, and graduated from Carlyle Community High School in 1959. Betty married Edward Speidel, with whom she had two children, Tamela and Mark. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1972, her primary role was that of devoted mother and wife of a Methodist minister, supporting those around her and encouraging the pursuit of dreams. After her divorce, Betty was called to work as a hospital chaplain and also managed properties. Throughout her life, Betty had a positive impact in the lives of many people through generous hospitality and compassion.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Alvena Snider, and her brother, Ronald Snider.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Tamela Speidel of Kansas City, MO, her son, Mark Speidel (Pam), and grandson, Tyler of Laguna Niguel, CA; her siblings, Dave Krech of Wycliffe, KY; Barbara Marbut (Charles) of Greenville, IL; Sandra Britt (Donald) of Mulberry Grove, IL; and Gary Snider (Diego Murillo) of Medellin, Colombia; many adoring nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including long-time, faithful family friend, Robert Lynch of Kansas City, MO.

A memorial service will be held at the Shattuc United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. Please consider making a donation in Betty’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
