High Wind Warning In Effect Til 3 PM Wednesday


The Bond County Sheriff’s Department is currently without telephone service. If you have an emergency, call 911 – but again, only for an emergency – or you can call the Greenville City Police at 664-2131.

Bond County Transit is also without telephone service. The Bond County Senior Center has a working phone system, however. So if you need a ride or information from Bond County Transit, call the Senior Center at 664-1465.

There is a high wind warning in our listening area up until 3 PM today. Wind is gusting up to 60 miles per hour and may cause damage to power lines, trees, and property. The National Weather Service encourages you to secure outdoor objects, avoid being outside around trees, and use extra caution especially if driving a high profile vehicle.

Both Ameren and Southwesern Electric reported around 200 customers were without power this morning. Power was restored in a short time.

WGEL has received several reports of downed tree limbs, and with the wind, the number will is sure to increase through the day.

The Greenville Police Department reported a tree down across IL Rt. 140 near Spring Hill Drive, which caused a single vehicle accident early this morning. The driver was not injured and the tree has been cleared.
