Highland Native Jake Odorizzi has signed a big one-year contract to remain another season with the Minnesota Twins.
The right-handed pitcher decided to accept a qualifying offer of $17.8 million from the Twins.
Odorizzi was one of the top pitchers last year for Minnesota, posting a 15-7 record with a 3.51 earned run average. He was selected to the All-Star game for the first time.
The Twins won the American League Central Division title in 2019.
Odorizzi graduated from Highland High School in 2008, after an outstanding baseball career there.
He just finished his sixth full season in the major leagues and his second with the Twins. In 2012 and 2013 Odorizzi pitched in a total of nine games for Kansas City and Tampa Bay, then became a full-time starting pitcher with Tampa Bay in 2014. He was traded to Minnesota in 2018.
