Two members of the South Central Conference have advanced to the third round of the state football playoffs.
In games played Saturday, Pana won its Class 2A game, 47-20, over Fithian Oakwood, and Vandalia converted a 34-yard field goal with less than 10 seconds remaining for a 23-20 victory over Mt. Carmel in Class 3A.
Vandalia is unbeaten this season and Pana’s only loss was to the Vandals.
The team that knocked Greenville out of the playoffs, Quincy Notre Dame, beat Beardstown, 21-7 on Saturday.
At Fairfield, Breese Mater Dei trailed 6-0 at halftime, but controlled the second half to win 21-6 in Class 3A.
In Class 2A action Saturday, Nashville beat Bismarck-Henning 28-14.
Area Class 4A games included Effingham over Benton, 42-7, and Fairbury Prairie Central over Columbia 28-22.
In Class 5A, Highland lost to Rochester,42-7, and Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin defeated Triad 27-13.
East St. Louis won its Class 6A playoff game, 70-28, over Rock Island.
