Two Accidents In Bond County Monday Morning


While details are not available, some information has been received regarding a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon Monday morning on Illinois Rt. 140, about a mile east of Pokey Road.

Pocahontas-Old Ripley Fire Protection District Fire Chief Dennis Lindley said two SUVs were in the accident and a total of four persons were taken by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital in Greenville.

Pocahontas-Old Ripley EMTs and firemen were sent to the scene. They requested and received mutual aid from Bond County Emergency Medical Services and the Greenville Fire Protection District.

Ambulances from the Pocahontas-Old Ripley District and Bond County EMS transported the injured to the hospital. Greenville firemen, who were called at 11:50 a.m., assisted in extricating one of the victims from a vehicle.

The accident occurred at the crest of a hill during the snowy weather while road conditions were treacherous.

Greenville District firemen were also called at 10:42 a.m. Monday after police received a report of a rollover accident on Illinois Rt. 127, two miles north of Illinois Rt. 140. According to fire personnel, there was no entrapment and the fire department was not needed.
