Stella Virginia Phillips, age 84 of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away 11:07 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Edwardsville Care Center in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Glenview Church of the Nazarene, Glen Carbon, Illinois. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Vandalia, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the church Sunday from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
Stella Virginia, the daughter of Otis and Nola Alma Boyles Armes, was born December 18, 1934 in Doniphan, Missouri. She grew up on the family farm and attended the local schools. She moved to Madison, Illinois in 1953. She worked at Chili Bowl Restaurant and Tie Factory.
Stella and William “Jim” Phillips were united in marriage on September 3, 1953. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his passing on December 25, 2005. They lived in Oklahoma for 10 years, Edwardsville, Illinois and Troy, Illinois where she cared for the elderly.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Patricia Krueger of Troy, Illinois and Ruth Wiegand and husband Charles of Alhambra, Illinois. Loving grandmother to 5: Richard Krueger, Virginia Hughbanks, Kraig Krueger, Katie Plummer and Randie Nordyke and great-grandmother of 8. Stella is also survived by her brother Theodore Armes.
Preceded in death by her parents, son William James Phillips on September 16, 2017, siblings: Evelyn Seale, Eli Armes, Ruth Rodgers, Dorothy Armes and a sibling at birth.
