Comets End Regular Season With Win At Gillespie

The Greenville Comets stretched their winning streak to five with a victory at Gillespie Friday night.

In the final game of the regular season, the Comets whipped the Miners 61-43.

Greenville led by 10 after one quarter and 15 at halftime. The margin remained in double figures throughout the second half.

The winning team featured balanced scoring. Jack Schaufelberger posted 18 points, Fletcher Manhart and Peyton McCullough had 16 apiece, and Desmond Gardner added seven.

The Comets concluded the regular season with a 7-2 record in the South Central Conference and an 11-17 overall mark.

They play next week in the Roxana Class 2A Regional.

GHS meets Southwestern Piasa at 7:30 p.m. Monday and with a win will advance to the semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Roxana.

The regional title game is Friday at 7 p.m.
