Fayette County Pursuit Ends With Arrests In Greenville


A police pursuit that began in Vandalia early Saturday morning ended in Greenville on Route 40 in front of Carlisle SynTec.

Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith told WGEL, deputies were in the parking lot of the sheriff’s department, when they noticed a vehicle allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed on the street near the lot.

The officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver but he did not stop.

A pursuit began, going through Vandalia to Route 40, then east on Route 40 into Bond County. The Bond County Sheriff’s Department and Greenville Police were notified of the chase.

Sheriff Smith said speeds on Route 40 were 50 to 60 miles per hour.

Bond County deputies put stop sticks out at Smithboro, but the driver was able to drive around them. Greenville police set out stop sticks near Carlisle SynTec and the vehicle hit the sticks.

Three subjects, an adult and two juveniles were taken into custody by the Fayette County deputies shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday. The alleged driver is a 19-year-old from Greenville. He was arrested.

Sheriff Smith reported the juveniles were released to their parents.

He said it was learned the three were allegedly in a stolen vehicle.
