Most Junior High Fall Sports Cancelled

The majority of junior high fall sports have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) board met in special session this past Thursday.

The directors held an extensive discussion, then voted unanimously to cancel the regular season and state series in the sports of boys’ baseball, girls’ softball, golf and cross country.

The IESA reported there are no plans to try to reschedule the activities or conduct them later in the school year.

Girls’ softball was scheduled to begin practices on July 27 and the baseball season was to start August 3.

No announcement has been made regarding the status of junior high girls basketball, as the first day of practice is slated for August 31. The IESA board will meet in August to decide on the girls’ basketball season.
