The 2020 major league baseball season just got underway and the Minnesota Twins began without their best pitcher from last year.
Highland native Jake Odorizzi is on the 10-day injured list because of soreness in his upper back. He can rejoin the team on July 30.
Odorizzi was a star pitcher at Highland High School and was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008, then traded to the Kansas City organization in 2010, and made his major league debut on September 23, 2012.
Odorizzi was traded to Tampa Bay in 2013 and was with that organization through the 2017 season.
He has been with Minnesota since 2018.
Last year, Odorizzi led the Twins’ starters in wins with 15 and in earned run average with a 3.51 mark. He was selected to the all-star game.
