Charges have been filed in a Montgomery County homicide investigation.
On Sunday, authorities were alerted to a shooting in a Witt, IL, residence. Upon their arrival they found 36 year old Jason S. Newell, of Springfield, deceased. Newell had reportedly been staying in the house temporarily.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports multiple gunshots from a .22 caliber rifle and wounds from a knife were the cause of death.
Deputies took two other residents of the home, 30 year old Allan J. “AJ” Frayer, and 18 year old Elise I. Rufus, into custody. Rufus was released.
Frayer was charged Tuesday with two counts of alleged First Degree Murder and alleged Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Frayer’s bond has been set at $1,500,000.
