The Illinois High School Association Board of Directors met virtually Monday and updated its Return To Activities guidelines.
The board members decided to waive its previous two-contest per week limitations for this school year’s winter, spring and summer sports.
Those sports can now revert back to the normal season game limitations.
In addition, the IHSA’s summer season will begin two weeks earlier than initially announced. The sports of baseball, softball, track, soccer, boys’ tennis and volleyball, and lacrosse will now be able to start practices on April 19 and begin games on May 3.
The IHSA board denied a request from Highland High School for an exemption to the by-law governing independent team participation. The school had sought permission, for this school year, to allow athletes in the summer sports of volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, baseball and softball to simultaneously participate on their IHSA school team and on a non-school team.
