Judge Elections Tuesday

Judge positions are on Tuesday’s ballot.

Two current appellate court judges are running for the Fifth District Illinois Supreme Court position, which will be open when by Lloyd Karmeier retires December 6.

The candidates are Democrat Judy Cates from the Belleville area, and Republican David Overstreet from Mt. Vernon.

Cates was elected to the Fifth District Appellate Court in 2012. Overstreet was elected an appellate judge for the same district in 2017.

There is a vacancy on the Fifth District Appellate Court due to the retirement last year by Melissa Ann Chapman.

Running in this election for the remainder of the term are Republican Mark Boie from Anna and Democrat Sarah Smith from Madison County. Boie and Smith are both circuit judges.

Also on the ballot is a Third Judicial Court circuit judge position.

Candidates are Republican Steve Stobbs of Godfrey, who has been an associate judge for the Third District since 2006. His opponent is Democrat Leslie Ann Wood, who has been an attorney 22 years and has her office in Glen Carbon.

The Third Judicial District consists of Bond and Madison counties.
