Four Highland Pierron Fire Department firefighters received certificates at Tuesday’s business meeting. Pictured at the top with Chief Decker are Seth Huelsmann and Kyle Gruner who recently completed Basic Operations Firefighter (BOF) certification. The BOF class consists of 180 hours of classroom work, hands-on practicals, and successful testing. To become certified, a 40-hour HazMat Operations course must also be completed. BOF is a requirement for HFPD members to complete.

Pictured at the bottom with Chief Decker are Jason Bange and Jerod Kampwerth, who recently completed a 43 hour course at Illinois Fire Service in Champaign to be certified in Structural Collapse Operations. Becoming certified in this area of technical rescue requires the course to be successfully completed as well as the state test.
