Bond County Board Approves Resolutions

The Bond County Board has approved resolutions  for the highway department.

One resolution requests an additional $90,000 from the Illinois Department of Transportation for engineering work on the project to improve Pokey Road, north of Pocahontas. Highway Engineer Mike McCormick said the state will pay all the preliminary engineering costs.

The work will include cement stabilization for the road base, and an asphalt overlay from Illinois Rt. 140, north to Robinson Cemetery Avenue. There will also be some drainage repairs.

McCormick said the intersection of Rt. 140 and Pokey Road will be redesigned.

The project’s construction will be 100 percent funded with state and federal funds.

The other two resolutions pertain to road maintenance materials, to be paid from motor fuel tax funds.

Contracts were awarded to companies for materials to be used by Bond County township road districts. There was a separate resolution for materials need by the county highway department.

All bids were submitted in per ton prices. For the townships, nine different companies received contracts while four companies will be furnishing the county’s materials.
