Staff members from Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerich’s office will be in Greenville Wednesday, March 19 to help reunite citizens with missing money through the I-Cash program.
The event will be from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Greenville Municipal Building.
The treasurer’s office estimates that in Bond County, 19,900 people have unclaimed cash or property with a total value exceeding $2.1 million held by the state.
Frerichs said the money belongs to the residents of Illinois and it should be in their bank accounts rather than the state’s safe. The items can include unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards.
The state treasurer is legally required to return the property to the rightful owners, no matter how long it takes.
Individuals can search the state treasurer’s database for their name or the name of their business or non-profit at IllinoisTreasurer.gov/icash.
