A low-flying plane in Greenville Tuesday afternoon definitely got the attention of those in the city.

The Air Force C-17 cargo plane did a flyover at about 1:50 p.m.

Piloted by Major Jacob Schomaker, the plane flew specifically over the Greenville University dining commons. The pilot is the younger brother of Greenville University Head Football Coach Robbie Schomaker and this was Jacob’s final flight before retiring from the Air Force.

GU employees and students were notified Tuesday morning by campus security about the flight and they were encouraged to congratulate Major Schomaker for his service.

WGEL contacted the Greenville Airport and was told someone from the Air Force contacted the airport Monday to make sure there was no problem with the C-17 jet plane going through the air space in this area on Tuesday afternoon.
