After a wait of about three years, Bond County Transit has received five new vehicles.
They include one 14-passenger bus, two 12-passenger buses and two vans. All of them are equipped for wheelchair riders.
One of the vans will seat five passengers, and the other, which allows for wheel chairs to be loaded from the rear, can seat seven people.
A van was received within the last couple of months. Two weeks ago, four transit drivers drove the other vehicles from Kankakee to Bond County. Making the trip were Dale Deverick, Nick Elmore, Bob Speraneo and John Zykan.
At this time, all of the vehicles are being prepped to go into service.
The units were obtained through grants in the Illinois Consolidated Procurement Program, which are provided by the Federal Transit Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Bond County Senior Center operates the local transit system for the County of Bond.
