A woman driving a car on Interstate 70 in Bond County Tuesday morning miraculously was not seriously injured when her call allegedly struck the rear of a tractor trailer unit.
The crash occurred about a half mile west of the Smithboro overpass in the eastbound lanes if the interstate, and it affected traffic in that direction while police and firemen worked at the scene.
Greenville Fire Protection District Chief Jim Sutton told WGEL the car was engulfed in flames, however the driver was able to get out of the vehicle, as did the truck driver. Sutton indicated no one was taken from the scene to a hospital.
The fire chief said it appeared the car went under the left rear corner of the aluminum trailer, and the fire ended up damaging a truck tire and a small area of the trailer.
Firefighters were called at 7:01 a.m. Upon reaching the scene, they extinguished the fire. The department was on the scene about 45 minutes.
