A few weeks ago, WGEL reported The State of Illinois had received approval for its Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment plan.
Now, thestate has received notice that the plan is being funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. That’s especially good news for Bond County as this could allow reliable, high-speed broadband service to be installed throughout the county.
Scott Wight, Bond County’s IT director, told WGEL this is the last key piece for this to happen. He added it is now in the state’s hands to work with the sub-grantee providers and get the build-out underway.
Bond County has 3,677 unserved and underserved locations that would have access to fiber-to-home service through the plan.
