Eldon L. “Eldy” Nowlin, age 86, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, June 5 at Faith Countryside Home in Highland. Funeral services will be Monday, June 9 at noon at Young Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. Post #1377. Friends may call Monday after 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Greenville First Christian Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Lucille Nowlin, his son Bruce (Judy) Nowlin, his daughters Laura (Kirby) Knackstedt and Cindy Nowling, his sister Deloris Scott, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was born in Greenville to Olin and Irene (Willis) Nowlin. He married Lavada Lurkins on September 10, 1960 in Greenville, IL. She died April 1, 2000. He later married Lucille Weiss Carter.
He grew up in Greenville. He operated The Uptown Body Shop for a time and then worked at Parts Manager at Wade Ford in Greenville and later at Putnam Wright Ford in Hillsboro. He had also worked at Carlisle Syntec Systems in Greenville from 1981 to 1995. He enjoyed stock car and Indy car racing. He was a member of The Bond County Saddle Club and also a member of the First Christian Church.
