Marie Reeves age 82 of Greenville, passed away at 5:11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Greenville First Baptist Church with Pastor David Bilyeu officiating. Interment will follow in Mt.Auburn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday. For those who desire memorials in Marie’s memory may be made to the Greenville First Baptist Church or to the Greenville Public Library.
Marilyn Marie Zeller, the daughter of Ivan Vivian Zeller and Sarah Luvina Sines Zeller, was born on November 7, 1931 in Spring Arbor, Michigan. She grew up there with her five brother and sisters and and attended a one room school and graduated from Spring Arbor High School. Marie came to Greenville College where she met Duane Reeves. Marie graduated from Greenville College in 1954 and taught one year in Spring Arbor. After their marriage Marie went overseas with Duane where she substitute taught in Germany. Upon their return to Greenville Marie taught 5th grade at Inglis School for a time. She then moved to the New Elementary School where she taught fifth and sixth grades retiring in 1989 after 26 years of teaching. In retirement Marie enjoyed volunteering in the Utlaut Thrift Store, served as head of the Library Board for a time, was in the Shakespeare Club. and very active in her Church, the Greenville First baptist Church.
Marie and Duane L. Reeves were united in marriage on July 17, 1955 in her parents home in Spring Arbor, Michigan and enjoyed over 50 years together before Duane’s death on June 10, 2006.
They are the parents of two children who survive: Richard D. (Ronda) Reeves of north of Greenville, Jane A. (David) Castelein of St. Charles, MO, five grandchildren: Karen (David) Clark, Regan (Charles) Coleman, Chea Reeves, Madelyn Brandt, Luke Castelein, three great-grandchildren: Hunter Clark, Haylee Clark, and Peyton Coleman. Marie is the first of her generation to die and is survived by her siblings: Carolyn Garnett of Spring Arbor, MI, William (Shirley) Zeller of Albian, MI, Twins JoAnn (Stan) Smith of Glen Carbon, IL, and Jean (Bill) Kozlowski of Crossville, TN, and Tom (Sharon) Zeller of Spring Arbor, MI.
Marie is a member of the Shakespeare Club, the Bond County Retired Teachers and the Illinois Retired Teachers, served on the Greenville Library Board, and is a member of the Greenville First Baptist Church.
