Dorothy I. Cox, 93, of Patoka, formerly Mulberry Grove, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at home. She was born the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Dugan) Tompkins on December 16, 1920 in Mulberry Grove, IL. She married John Cox on October 12, 1940 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1986.
Survivors include her daughter Sue Herrin, husband Jim of Vernon; sons Tom Cox, wife Janet of Patoka, Mike Cox, wife Drusilla of Humboldt, Kansas; sister Rotha Payne of Vernon; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Darlene Eyman, brothers Horace, Claude, Dugan, and Floyd Tompkins, and daughter-in-law Connie Cox.
Mrs. Cox was devoted to helping her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She especially loved her strawberry garden. She adored her family and treasured the memories made with them.
Services for Mrs. Cox will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Vernon. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
