Laverna L. Ammann, age 94, of Highland, passed away Saturday, July 19, at St. Luke’s Hospital-West in Chesterfield, Missouri. Funeral services for 94 year old Laverna L. Ammann will be Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.
She was born on Friday, August 1, 1919, in Carlyle, IL, the daughter of Fred W. and Louisa (nee Steffen) Wiese.
On Saturday, August 07, 1937, she married Lester John Ammann who passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008.
She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ.
Laverna was born in Carlyle, IL, and lived with her Aunt Louise, after her Mother’s death. At age 13 she moved to Jamestown, IL, where she helped the Emil Foehner family and then the Tony Gnaedinger family with household chores. She moved to Highland and worked at Florence’s Beauty Shop, Tschannen 5 & 10 cent store (for 10 years), Ziegler Jewelry Store , and Super Value Bakery (for 10 years). She enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo, hosting Card Parties, gardening and raising flowers.
