Opal R. Golder, age 87 of Carlyle, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Golder was born on September 12, 1926, at the family home place in Lake Township, a daughter of John and Ellen (Potts) Schuchmann. She married Philip J. Golder on October 21, 1944, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2003.
Opal is survived by her daughter – Mary Ellen Foraker and husband Jack of Shattuc; 2 grandchildren – Carrie Ellis and husband Michael and Jack Foraker, III and wife Melissa; 4 great grandchildren – Jacqueline, Nathan and Sydney Ellis, and Jean Marie Foraker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents – John and Ellen Schuchmann; a son – Ronald Golder; and 2 brothers – Carl and Lawrence Schuchmann.
Opal graduated from Carlyle High School and worked in St. Louis as a typist. She also worked at Carlyle Healthcare Center, and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she worked in respiratory therapy. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle and served on several committees. She belonged to the Women’s Guild at the church and served as church council secretary. Opal enjoyed sewing, needlework, playing cards with her friends and spending time with her family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Golder will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Zieren Day Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Menchhofer, officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Monday morning from 9:00 – 11:30 A.M.
Donations in memory of Mrs. Golder are suggested to St. Joseph’s Hospital or to Immanuel United Church of Christ and will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home.
