Raylene M. Hammond

Raylene M. Hammond, age 78, of St. Peter, IL, passed away Saturday, August 16 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Funeral services for 78 year old Raylene M. Hammond will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20 at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will be in McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Hammond was born on March 29, 1935, in Girard, Illinois, a daughter of Raymond and Ferne (Beckett) Ersery. She married Carlos E. Hammond on May 8, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri and he survives in St. Peter.

In addition to her husband Carlos, Mrs. Hammond is also survived by her children – Carlos Hammond, Jr. of Keyesport, Illinois, James Hammond and wife Candi of Palmyra, Illinois, Gloria Hammond of Plano, Texas, Carla Elam and husband Greg of Keyesport and Raymond Hammond of Keyesport; 7 grandchildren – Tilden Hammond, Nathan Elam and wife Tina, Casey Meskil and husband Kory, Brianne Swick and husband Garrett, Tasha Boettcher and husband Bobby, Chris Hammond and wife Amy, and Willis Knutt; 11 great grandchildren – Jillian, Reece and Cale Elam, Parker Meskil, Chase and Ryker Hammond, Taylor, Camryn and Kayli Boettcher, and Ben and Krissy Swick; and 2 brothers – Sterling Ersery of Girard, Illinois and James Ersery of Woodstock, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Raymond and Ferne Ersery; and 2 sons – Michael W. Hammond and Jeffrey W. Hammond.

Mrs. Hammond was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shobonier and was a member of the Ladies Aid at the church. She worked at Keyesport Grade School, and loved cooking, shopping, flower gardening, reading, Cubs baseball and high school basketball.
