Paul Luebbers

Paul Luebbers, age 79, of Carlyle, passed away Monday, September 15 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. A Mass of Christian Burial for 79 year old Paul Luebbers will be celebrated Thursday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Luebbers was born on March 6, 1935, in Irishtown Township, a son of Menard, Sr. and Ida (Harpstrite) Luebbers. He married Lillian Venhaus on July 17, 1956, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese and she survives in Carlyle.

Also surviving are his children – Jeff Luebbers and wife Vivian of Aviston, Kevin Luebbers and wife Jackie of Carlyle, Duane Luebbers and wife Rachel of Carlyle, Gerard Luebbers and wife Becky of Carlyle, Janine Hegger and husband Rick of Carlyle, Laurie Busse and husband Dave of Edwardsville, Brian Luebbers and wife Donna of Englewood, Colorado and Paul Luebbers and wife Windy of Dunlap, Illinois; his grandchildren – Nathan Hegger, Theresa Cole and husband Sergio, Ashley Luebbers, Kyle Hegger and wife Priscila, Amanda Luebbers, Jacob Luebbers, Neil Luebbers, Alicia Luebbers, Sarah Busse, Jennifer Luebbers, Samuel Luebbers, Benjamin Luebbers, Joseph Luebbers, Matthew Busse, Michaela Luebbers, John Paul Luebbers, Ian Luebbers, Stephen Luebbers, Elizabeth Luebbers, Andrew Luebbers, Sonya Luebbers, Alexander Luebbers, Anne Luebbers, and Zachary Luebbers; and one great grandchild – Margaret Cole. Mr. Luebbers is also survived by 3 sisters – Virginia Bryk of Carlyle, Marie Mitchell of Sparta and Ida Mae Guthrie and husband Dave of Centralia; a brother – Irwin “Lou” Luebbers and wife Trudy of Breese; and his in-laws – Marian Luebbers, Jane Luebbers, Helen Luebbers, Karen Campbell and husband Jerry, Marvin Venhaus and wife Janet, and Linda Kay Schurman and husband Gene.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Menard, Sr. and Ida Luebbers; sisters – Loretta Diffenauer and husband Joe, Eugenia “Ganie” Meyer and husband Vince, and Dorothy Diffenauer and husband Harold; brothers – Anthony Luebbers and his wives Geraldine and Esther, Earl Luebbers, Arthur Luebbers, Vincent Luebbers and wife Aida, Menard, Jr. and wife Marie, Adrian Luebbers and wife Myrtle, Alfred Luebbers and wife Pat, and Theodore Luebbers; and a sister-in-law – Leona Sudholt and husband Tom.

Paul was a long-time employee of Luebbers Welding in Carlyle and a member of St. Mary’s Church. He was an accomplished woodworker, and loved Polka dancing with his wife.
