Mildred Louise Franklin, age 93, of Glen Carbon, formerly of Greenville, passed away Sunday, October 19, at Eden Village. Funeral services for 93 year-old Mildred Louise Franklin will be Thursday, October 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Weber & Rodney Funeral Home, at 304 N. Main Street in Edwardsville. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the United Presbyterian Women or Eden Village.
Mildred was a homemaker and worked at Libson Shop in Edwardsville for 12 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She was born December 6, 1920, in Greenville the daughter of the late Curtis & Pearl (Hawley) Riggin. She married Charles L. Franklin on September 6, 1945, in Greenville. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1977. Mildred is survived by 3 daughters, Janet Schwalb & husband David of Edwardsville, Kathy Moore & husband Mike of Manchester, MO, and Gale Hensley & husband John of Wentzville, MO; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Nelda Conkwright Anania & Lella Davis. Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, The United Presbyterian Women, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Happy Notes. As a young woman Mildred and her 2 sisters sang professionally as the Riggin Sisters. In her later years she sang with the Happy Notes.
