James Carpenter, age 67, of Old Ripley, passed away Thursday, November 13, at his home. Funeral services for 67 year-old James Carpenter will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18 at the Greenville First Christian Church. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family. The Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James S. Carpenter grew up in Bond County and attended the local schools. He served 4 years in the Air Force serving in Viet Nam. James married Marsha Ernest on June 18, 1965. They have enjoyed 49 years together. After his discharge from the military, Jim worked for local farmers, businesses and started his own construction company.
Mr. Carpenter enjoyed spending his time in scouting and teaching karate to local youth. Jim was mayor of Old Ripley, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife and children; James (Pam) Carpenter of Greenville, Anita Brown (Jim Kohlbrecher) of St. Rose, Erin (Josh) Hill of Greenville, 3 grandchildren; James Michael (Grace) Carpenter of Greenville, Cody Brown of Breeze and Taylor Hill of Greenville and great-grandfather of James Daniel Carpenter.
