Evelyn Hempen, age 95, of Carlyle, passed away Monday, December 8 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Funeral services for 95 year old Evelyn Hempen will be held Thursday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia. Friends may call Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hempen was born on April 12, 1919, in Centralia, Illinois, to Arthur and Electa (Coltrin) Hart. She was married to John Hempen on April 14, 1939, in St. Charles, Missouri and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2000.
Evelyn is survived by a niece – Ruth Ann Friend of Centralia; 2 nephews – Lee Hart and wife Julie of Irvington and Gary Hart of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother – Leon Hart; and 3 brothers and a sister in infancy.
Mrs. Hempen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle, the United Methodist Women’s Good Cheer Sunday School Class, and the Tuesday Class.
