Joan B. Smith, age 79, of Highland, passed away Thursday, December 4 at Legacy Place in Highland. Funeral services for 79 year old Joan B. Smith will be held Friday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen, IL. Burial will be in Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg, IL. Memorials are suggested to the Highland Animal Shelter. The Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Thursday, April 04, 1935, in Golden Eagle, IL, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (nee Bimslagar) Hagen.
On Saturday, May 19, 1956, she married Edwin R Smith who survives.
She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church.
She was born and raised in Golden Eagle, IL; graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Brussels, IL. She later graduated from Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL, School of Nursing. She and her husband were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brussels, IL. After marriage they lived in Chicago, IL. She worked for Corn Products, Argo, IL, as an occupational registered nurse, for 35 years until her retirement. She and her husband retired at Lake Catatoga, Carlinville, IL. They moved to Highland, IL, in 2010.She enjoyed cooking, sewing, golfing, caring for people and her job as a registered nurse.
