Stella A. Schoendienst-Jeffries

Stella A. Schoendienst-Jeffries, age 89, of New Baden, passed away Thursday, December 11 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. A funeral mass of Christian burial for 89 year old Stella A. Schoendienst-Jeffries will be Thursday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or Clinton Manor Activity Fund. The Moss Funeral Home in Breese is in charge of arrangements.

Stella was born October 3, 1925 in Aviston, IL to Fred and Theresa (Schrage) Rohling; they preceded her in death.

She married Julius Schoendienst on October 29, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1972.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Renschen; a brother, Edmund Rohling; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul Renschen, Alma Rohling, Andrew Schoendienst, Eugene and Loretta Schoendienst, Loretta and Victor Billhartz, Elmer Schoendienst, and Mary Schoendienst; and former husband, Marcellus Jeffries.

Surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Albert “Red” Schoendienst, Joseph (Irene) Schoendienst, Vera Schoendienst, Laveta Schoendienst; nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Stella and her husband Julius owned and operated Schoendienst Tavern in Aviston and managed Carbondale Bowl in Carbondale. She retired from JC Penny’s in Fairview Heights and was a member of the Aviston American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary.
