Samuel Smith

Samuel Smith, age 73, of Taylor Springs, passed away Tuesday, January 13, at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab Center in Taylor Springs. Memorial services for 73 year-old Samuel Smith will be Friday, January 16, at 1:00 p.m., in the Taylor Springs Community Building. Masonic rites will be scheduled. The Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith was born on May 14, 1941 to the late Samuel F. and Ruth (Gaines) Smith. He married Norma Sugg on January 5, 1962, in Fillmore, IL, and she survives in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Smith was a 1959 graduate of Vandalia High School, Vandalia, IL. During his lifetime he lived in Vandalia, IL; Mulberry Grove, IL; Greenville, IL; Panama, IL; Schram City, IL and Hillsboro, IL. He was a retired truck driver for DNL Disposal of Greenville, IL. He was a member of the Mulberry Grove Masonic Lodge and the Hillsboro Lions Club. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and camping. He helped coach the Goldminer basketball team, enjoyed tinkering around in his shop and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Norma Smith, of Hillsboro, IL; one daughter, Cindy (husband Mark) Laurent, Taylor Springs, IL; two sons, Jim (wife Denise) Smith, Hillsboro, IL and Tim Smith, Hillsboro, IL; five grandchildren, Josh Laurent, Jennifer (husband Brian) Hendricks, Keith Smith, Nathan Smith and Tyler Smith; and two great grandchildren, Camden Hendricks and Alexa Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Memorials may be sent to Montgomery County Cancer Association or Hillsboro Sports Association.
