Thomas H. Werner, age 79, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, December 31, at St. Louis University Hospital. Funeral services for 79 year-old Thomas H. Werner will be Saturday, January 10, at 11:00 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Friends may call Friday, January 9, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
He was born on Monday, February 18, 1935, in Highland, IL, the son of Hugo E. and Hazel D. (nee Floro) Werner.
On Saturday, February 13, 1960, he married Virginia E. Werner (nee Spihlman) who survives.
He was a member of Greenville Country Club, Greenville, IL.
He was born and reared in Highland, IL; graduated from Highland High School in 1953. He served with the US Navy from July 12, 1956 to June 13, 1958 with duty in Japan and Australia. He worked for Southern Illinois Railroad; Alton Box Board, Highland, IL; operated Greenville Bowl for 8 years. He retired in 1998 as a general manager for Arnold Bowl, Arnold, MO. He had been a pre-need counselor for Hoffmeister Funeral Home, St. Louis, Mo. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and working puzzles. He hit a hole in one in golf and bowled a 300 game. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
